“Shovel Of Dirt” was my first record project after being released from my Private Music recording agreement. Centered upon an epic 10-minute song about the then-recording setting 1993 Mississippi River floods called “Gone Down The River,” the album explored Midwest themes. I worked off and on for 6 years on the album but was distracted by so many other things I eventually entirely lost interest in the project, when I turned my attention back to “This Perfect Day.” In 2000 or thereabouts, I became fascinated with the idea of collaborating on recordings over the internet. Many years later, technology and bandwidth have progressed to the point where this is possible. Beginning with the basic tracks off of “Shovel Of Dirt,” I plan on soon making basic tracks from the Roman Foods Studio archives as well as ongoing productions available for collaboration over this website under a Creative Commons license.
